HRH The Prince of Wales joined The Prince's Seeing is Believing visit led by Steven Esom, Director of Food for Marks & Spencer, to farms on the North Yorkshire Moors on 22 January 2008.

The Prince of Wales was visiting North Yorkshire with business leaders as part of his Business in the Community programme, aimed at improving  links between retailers and farmers.

They toured Hill Top Farm near Kirkbymoorside, where they talked to organic millers and farmers and then went on to Grange Farm in Levisham, which rears, butchers and sells meat through the Ginger Pig enterprise to a number of traditional shops in London and the local area

Speaking after the farmyard tour, addressing dinner guests, HRH the Prince of Wales said "When you look at villages here and the scenery and communities which have been woven into the fabric of the landscape, none of this happens by accident. Churches, pubs, village shops make a place like the North York Moors the special place it is.  We need to find ways to make farms improve their marketing and find their way forward in the modern world."

Guests heard speeches before the Prince sampled special mutton dishes, prepared by young chefs from the Academy of Culinary Arts.

Yorkshire-born chef Brian Turner, from the training organisation, who is best known for his regular television appearances, told the audience of farmers, national park officials and other people connected with the industry, about the importance of quality cooking and produce.  He said: "I have grown up with mutton and it is an important part of our heritage and more than that a great dish when local, seasonal and robust are such a vital part of our repertoire."
