Serco is currently one of the key business partners for Ready for Work and additionally supports the Plymouth Sustainable Employment Project, currently being delivered by Shekinah in partnership with Plymouth City Council.
John Hamblin, Chief Executive of Shekinah Mission comments: ‘We are very proud to have received this donation from Serco. With this money we can support three trainees into further vocational training at our site in Stonehouse inevitably providing a greater opportunity for them to move into employment in the future.’
Trainees benefit from a range of training opportunities at Shekinah including personal development, budget management and construction skills. Many then choose to take part in a work placement with a local employer. Through these work placements Serco has become an employer of choice to work with in assisting homeless or vulnerable adults into work.
Stevie Murphy, HR Manager, adds; “We have supported Shekinah Mission and the Ready for Work programme for a number of years and it has become a very successful partnership. We currently offer work placements and employment opportunities in addition to supporting staff to train as job coaches. This is a great opportunity to further demonstrate our social responsibility in the local community.”
